What exactly is Peter Quince?
The Peter Quince Performing Company, Ltd. was founded in 1969 by Reed Humphrey and Emily Mueller. It is a not-for-profit summer theatre organization for young adults between the ages of 12 and 23. Peter Quince prides itself on the ability of its young members. Peter Quince survives on the generous donations of supportive community members.
The contagious spirit of theatre is the driving force behind the Peter Quince Performing Company. Founder Reed Humphrey stated that "the willingness to seek responsibility for what seems to be an impossible venture is the contagious spirit of Peter Quince and the real magic of theatre." The members of the company handle all aspects of the production including: acquiring rights and scripts for the show, finding rehearsal and performance space, auditioning cast, getting together a pit and technical crew, building the set, designing/running the sound and lighting, choreographing the dances, managing scene changes, drecting the show, and much more! Quince has something to offer for everyone.
Who is this Peter Quince guy?
Peter Quince takes its name from Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream," in which Peter Quince, a carpenter, organizes his friends as an acting troupe to entertain the royalty. He worked under adverse conditions, much like most of us today.
How is PQPC supported?
Peter Quince supports itself in several different ways. As with most theatre companies, a certain amount of revenue is taken in from ticket sales. In addition to this, the company has Corporate Sponsors within the community. These Corporate Sponsors donate money and, in return, are recognized on each season's program cover.
In addition to Corporate Sponsors, Sponsors and Patrons also donate money to the organization. Sponsors donate a sum (currently $40), and in return receive two free tickets to the season's performance and their names in the program. Patrons donate a sum (currently $20), and in return receive one free ticket and are recognized in the program.
Each season, company members hit the streets of Manitowoc County selling advertising space in the program. Ads range from $25 (1/8 page or business card size) to $100 (full page).
And, of course, we have several fundraisers throughout the course of a season. These include car washes, bake sales, rummage sales, and other various events.
More information can be found at our support page.
What is a "Quincer"?
A "Quincer" is what a member of the company is affectionately called. Currently we have about 40 Quincers. However membership fluctuates, building throughout the off-season until performance time.
Quincers range in age, interest, and ability. Quincers are Eagle Scouts, singers, members of national honor organizations, middle school and junior high students, actors, law firm secretaries, restaurant managers, church-goers, high school students, choir members, "techies," accordian lovers, movie theater employees, Burger King employees, college students, directors, factory and plant employees, waiters and waitresses, participants in Junior Leadership Manitowoc County, instrumental musicians, etc.
