Producer's Note from the program

Good Evening!
With your presence this evening, and our performance of "ANYTHING GOES", the Peter Quince Performing Co., Ltd marks its tenth year. We have come far since 1969; each year the company has grown in quality as well as quantity.
It is difficult to explain this company we call Quince. One could speak of long, hot and tiresome hours of rehearsals, or of racing to meet printing and advertising deadlines, or praying for more ticket sales and budgeting money not yet in the bank. But perhaps it is more enlightening to tell of tears of laughter, agreements and arguments, beads of perspiration, of our enthusiasm, frustrations and joy.
The spirit of Quince, however, is more than just that. It is not simply the motivation to produce a show. Peter Quince has brought each one of us a maturity, confidence, and closeness in a most unique way. A tremendous amount of cooperation and love of the company and its members is prerequisite to the success of such an organization. But the true key to the success and continued life of Peter Quince is that it brings that growth and maturity to each one of us individually as well as to the company as a whole. We have learned to work together and care for one another in the Quince way. This is the spirit which has produced our musical theatre for ten years.
It is with that same Peter Quince spirit that I welcome you to tonight's performance of "Anything Goes". During the performance, it is my hope that you may catch a glimpse of that spirit. For it is only in this way that we are able to express our gratitude for your participation as an audience. Thank you for sharing with us our tenth anniversary season.
Enjoy the show!

Director's Note from the program

You've heard the old saying--"two heads are better than one". Well, we think so. This summer we decided to do something a little out of the ordinary. The two of us have put our heads together to prove that old axiom by co-directing Quince's tenth anniversary show.
Working as equals provides for a variety of advantages. For one, the fact that there are two sets of eyes watching and critiquing each scene, brings to the show two perspectives and consequently twice the advantages.
In addition, each of us comes to the job with experiences that are both diverse and complementary. By combining our strengths we reach a level of expertise we could not reach individually.
On the other hand compromise does not always come easily. We've certainly had our share of "I don't agree", and "We'll talk about it later". And as any cast member can tell you conflicting ideas can cause confusing moments. "But, Bob told me..." and "But Mary Ellen just said..." were heard more often than once this summer.
We thank the cast, crews, and other staff members for their patience, cooperation, and diligent work. It has been a very rewarding summer for us.
This show, like this letter, is a little bit Bob, a little bit Mary Ellen. We think it has paid off.
Mary Ellen Childs and Bob Brasser
