Producer's Note from the program

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for coming tonight and welcome to Peter Quince Performing Company’s 36th season. I am very proud to present to you Meredeth Willson’s The Music Man.
Every summer I am taken aback by the magic of a group of 12-23 year olds putting on a show from start to finish. It is something that everyone associated with should be very proud of, and now that I am on the executive end of it, the magic only increases.
Five summers ago, when I joined this company, the thought of me being the producer never crossed my mind. I never thought I could handle such an important and big job, but that is the beauty of Quince. It gives children the opportunity to reach for the stars and make it there. It provides them with the tools to go and do the jobs they never thought they could do.
This summer has been extremely rewarding in so many ways. This season, not only did I get the chance to work with a fabulous group of 12-23 year olds, but I also was privileged to work with an outstanding group of 6-11 year old children! It has been a learning experience that I will take with me always.
There are so many people I need to thank; I don’t know where to begin. First of all, a special thank you to any executive board member. You guys have made my job easier and made the company run very smoothly. Secondly, I have to thank my directing staff. I couldn’t think of a better staff to work with. Kelly, thank you for lending us your incredible musical skills and for being my musical confidant. Jason, thanks for sharing your musical gifts with us. Gretchen, thank you for your infectious smile, sense of humor, and most of all for your heart. “Scuba” Steve, thank you for being an absolutely incredible friend, you’ve made many bad rehearsal days better. Also thanks for the hospitality. Darrick, you are a very good tech director and a great guy. Finally, thank you Jamie; in you I have found not only a great director, but also one of the best friends I have ever had or will ever have. Also a special thank you to Missy, Amanda, Casey, Melyssa K., Micah, Jennifer, and Emilee for keeping me sane and being great this summer. I love all of you.
In Quince I have found more responsibility and work than ever before, but I have also found more meaning, good friends, and magic than ever before. Thank you for your continued support as we strive to keep the dream alive. Now sit back, and enjoy the show.
Sincerely,
Mark Quistorf, Producer

Director's Note from the program

Good evening ladies and gentlemen and welcome to Peter Quince Performing Company's 36th season and our production of Meredith Willson's The Music Man. Thank you all for attending tonight's performance and supporting the nation's longest-continuing youth-run community theatre organization. It is through your generous support that we have been around for 36 years. With your continuing support we hope to be around for many years to come.
Nothing has ever filled me with more of a sense of pride than directing last summer's production of Footloose. I realized after that summer that I could not just stop at directing that show. I took on the challenge of general director for one more season. When we chose this show, some people were not so happy, but I always seemed to be the one who was always optimistic about things. I guess you can say that I believe in the saying, "Where there's a will, there's a way." Of course everything can't go swimmingly, but despite the problems that we have had to deal with this summer, I am proud of my cast, crew, pit and everyone else that has worked hard to make this show a success. I love you all and I hope that you all enjoyed this season as much as I have.
Of course, I did not do this alone. I have had the help of a wonderful directing staff. Mark, our producer and co-choral director, I love you and thank you very much for being there for me this summer and making me laugh when things got difficult. Kelly, our co-choral director and co-pit director, thank you for stepping into the choral director position and working so hard to make our pit sound the best that it can. Jason, our co-pit director, thanks for all of your hard work on the pit, you did a great job. Gretchen and Scuba Steve, I love you both and you did a terrific job on choreographing all the dances in this show. Your creativity and teamwork were an effective combo and it shows on stage. Darrick, our technical director, thank you very much for stepping into this position so late in the season. Your technical theatre experience was a great help in this venture and it showed.
I would also like to thank my sister, Missy, my mom and dad, and my family and friends for being there for me and understanding that when I do Quince during the summer that it is always my number one priority. I love you all.
I hope that you all enjoy the show. Now join the people of River City as they take you on a wonderful musical journey through Meredith Willson's The Music Man!
Jamie Strutz, General Director
