Program Notes
Producer's Letter from the program
Welcome Dreamers of all ages,

Round and around and around and around is consistently in my mind while I have the opportunity of holding the title of producer. The Dream of Peter Quince Performing Company is one that has been kept alive for 57 seasons and I am ever so lucky to have been a part of four of those seasons. Flourishing through a vivid imagination, Amélie is a story that people of all ages are able to connect with. The characteristics of nostalgia, grief, and love will come alive on stage. My hope for you as an audience member tonight is to be able to find hope in all of the dreams that the story of Amélie is able to bring.

Against all odds, a company ran completely on a dream by 12-23 year olds has been able to thrive for 57 years.. Thus forth, many lessons can be taught through collaboration, entry level leadership positions, and trying to avoid insurance fraud. I started out in the company four years ago by being a cast member in Big Fish. On an impulse decision I was thrown into the role of co-vice president and then followed by co-president. The decision of taking a break from the stage and running for producer was made in a place where all good, seamless plans are made: at 11:00 pm in a Kwik Trip parking lot. From there it became learning how to run a business while also being at the forefront of all company connections. It seems that we all are just an example of how many words in Amélie are able to ring true.

Much like Amélie, we rely on the support of our friends, family, coworkers and imagination to be able to succeed. There are many people whose heart and soul went into this production with great thanks to our executive board, everyone on the production council, stage crew, cast and pit.

I would like to extend special gratitude to Nolan and Jacob who took a bare stage and made it a Parisian cafe in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Rori for fearlessly leading the pit with compassion and an eye for detailed musicianship. Marley who made everyone's voices blend together and put int he effort to make the sound be effortless. Addison for creating vibrant dances that engage the cast. Cody for entering this process with a solid vision and seeing it through to the very end. Lastly, my assistant producer, Sydney Rabas who deserves immense thanks for helping me complete all behind the scenes work. From postering, social events, digging through wood in the basement, the list could go on and on: this show would not have been the same without you and your dedication.

Amélie harnesses numerous parts of life that I hope you will find connections with. Spur of the moment plans, new directions,  and imagining that Elton John is in your living room are all just a part of life. Even though t= times may be hard for dreamers, I like to think of  these awe inspiring words from an inspirational musician: "Everybody's going through tough times, believe me, been there done that, but everyday above ground is a great day, remember that!" ~Mr. Worldwide

Enjoy the show,
Grace Emily Knutson

Director's Letter from the program

Hello, and welcome to the profoundly imaginative world of Amélie!

This show has been near and dear to my heart for many years ever since I was cast in it in my freshman year at UWSP, that cast ended up becoming like a family, and cemented within me the feeling that the world of theatre and acting is the place for me.

However, when it came to deciding what show to direct, I have to be honest, Amélie didn't find a place on this list in my head to do, but when it crossed past my eyes I couldn't help but pause and say, "Wait a minute...". Well, that minute has now expanded in to months of work and I couldn't be happier to present this show with to you all!

A show about how we all have the ability to change lives, how the smallest acts of kindness can have the most profound consequences on other people. And how finding love and connection to others can be terrifying, but its worth in the spirit is transformative. The world we live in in 2025 can be so ferociously fast and scary. We as human beings cannot afford to lose in these times our ability to love and feel connection to one another. At the end of the day we all are human beings and I think the anger we can feel towards each other makes us forget that. Amélie reminds us (and herself) that it costs nothing to be kind, to others and to ourselves.

This show changed my life and I hope you all enjoy what a tremendously beautiful journey this show presents. I'd like to thank you all so much for supporting the arts, without them we end up missing so much beauty in the world. And with that, please enjoy Amélie the Musical!

Yours in Quince,
Cody Smogoleski
