Peter Quince Performing Company: Auditions for "The Drowsy Chaperone"

Who can try out?

You must be between the ages of 12 and 23 to be a member of PQPC.  This is the only requirement.

Where are auditions?

Auditions will be held at Riverview Early Learning Center, 4400 Michigan Avenue, Manitowoc, WI 54220

What roles are available?

There are many roles in The Drowsy Chaperone including one big “speaking only” role, a bunch of lead roles, and an ensemble of chorus characters.

What kind of people is Quince looking for?

Quince is looking for dedicated young people who work hard and strive to achieve goals.  Being in a production like ours is a very goal-oriented project.  It involves teamwork, communication, and challenges.  Members of our company work together to create theatre, and in doing so we become a family.

Actors, singers, dancers, stage hands, painters, carpenters, hair/makeup/costume crew, spotlight operators are different roles a member of Quince can fill.

Who should come to auditions?

Anyone interested in any of the roles listed above (cast, crew, etc.).  If you are auditioning for the cast you will do singing, dancing, and readings.  If you are interested in being on any of the crews, you will meet with some of the production staff and exchange contact information and discuss availability.

What should I bring to auditions?

  • Your schedule/calendar for the summer or a list of schedule conflicts.
  • A water bottle to stay hydrated (or bring 50 cents to buy one).
  • Optional: Completed Audition Form (will also be available at the audition)
  • 5 dollars to become a member. (If you participate in the production you need to be a member.  Crew should pay dues at auditions.  Becoming a member does not guarantee casting.  Cast and pit can pay dues at the first rehearsal.)

What should I wear to auditions?

  • Those auditioning for the cast should wear comfortable clothing in which you can move freely and dance.
  • Wear shoes for dancing. (no flip flops/sandals/boots)
  • If wearing a skirt, please make sure to wear shorts/spandex/etc. underneath.

What will happen at auditions?

  • Arrive 10-15 minutes early to fill out your audition form, stretch, and get accustomed to the space.
  • Everyone will read reading #1.
  • Anyone auditioning for a speaking role will perform one of that parts in reading #2.
  • Everyone will learn and perform an excerpt of “As We Stumble Along.”
  • Everyone will learn and perform a short dance sequence from the show.
  • There will be a brief break while the directors discuss.
  • Immediately following there will be callbacks.
  • During callbacks there will be additional readings.  You will be given a short time to look over lines and briefly rehearse with scene partners.

What happens if I don’t get a callback?

Not getting a callback does not mean you will not receive a role.  Likewise, getting a callback does not guarantee a role.  If you do not receive a callback, you will be free to go after checking in with the directors.

When will rehearsals begin?

Cast bonding and other activities will begin Tuesday May 26th.  Our first official rehearsal will be the all-cast readthrough and pre-production meeting June 1st.

Where will rehearsals take place?

Rehearsals for both cast and pit will be held at Immanuel Lutheran School at 916 Pine Street, Manitowoc, WI.

What time will rehearsals be?

Rehearsals are from 6pm to 9pm Sunday through Thursday.  Individuals are not called everyday, however if you are cast as a lead you will have more rehearsals than if you are in the ensemble.  During the week leading up to the performances rehearsals will go until 10pm.
