Program Notes
Producer's Note from the program
Welcome Ladies and Gentleman,
In prepaing for this summer to come to an end, for Godspell to come to an end, I am overcome with emotion. Although I am not the best with words, which I am sure the company members are well-aware of, I look to one of the founders of Peter Quince, Reed Humphrey, who, in his final letter as Producer in 1971, wrote these words:
Welcome Ladies and Gentleman,
In prepaing for this summer to come to an end, for Godspell to come to an end, I am overcome with emotion. Although I am not the best with words, which I am sure the company members are well-aware of, I look to one of the founders of Peter Quince, Reed Humphrey, who, in his final letter as Producer in 1971, wrote these words:
"To many, Peter Quince is more than just good theatre. To me especially it has been much more. Too much to try to explain here; it has been many people, sharing my dreams, and making sacrifices to make them come true."
-Reed Humphrey, 1971 Fiddler on the Roof Program |
These words stood out to me the most this summer because as my years continue on, I get closer to the days where I will be too old to be a part of the company and must join the group of alumni who cheers the company on from the audience. Each year members come together to create these works of art, to follow our dreams and put those dreams out on stage for you all to see, and for that I will be forever grateful to have been a part of Peter Quince
There are many emotions I feel going into the end of this season, not only the emotion of a show ending, but the emotion of a wonderful friend of mine "aging out" of Quince, a friend who I would not have met without Quince. A friend who I would not have been able to see flourish into the wonderful director she is today, Tessa Komoroski. I am so thankful for all the work you did this summer and the summers before this one.
Proud. This is an emotion I have felt quite often throughout this summer. From the first time seeing the Finale performed by the cast whose hard work and dedication had me crying my eyes out at the beauty within the show, to the moment when new members stepped ip and showed their dedication not only to the show, but also the company, to seeing returning members teaching young members how to take leadership. The company has many gems among it, and I hope you all see tonight, on stage, what has made me proud all summer.
Finally, thankfulness. Without everyone involved in this show, who you will see as you skim through this program, we would not have a show. A huge thank you goes to the directing staff for their never ending patience and hard work, as well as the productiong council and crews for without them we would be doing a black box show in the dark. Finally to you, sitting in your seats, without you there would be no reason for a show.

Director's Note from the program
Welcome Ladies and Gentlemen!
Thank you for coming to Peter Quince's 49th season produciont of Godspell: 2012 Revival. This is my 7th and final year with the company and I couldn't have asked for a more perfect ending to my time in Quince. My first show with Quince was Dirty Rotten Scoundrels where I participated in the pit. From there I joined the stage crew and found my way onto the stage as an actor. Last year, I choral directed for Seussical the Musical and I realized how much I love teaching and having a sense of pride watching all the hard work shine one stage. When I asked if I was going to run for director this year, I was unsure. Even though I had been doing theatre for 13 years, directing was not something I had ever thought of doing, but with the support from friends and family I put in my application and couldn't be happier to have been chosen. This summer has been a rollercoaster and the best ride of my life.
Godspell is such an interesting show in that it can be done in any way thought possible. It is left up to the individual director's imagination. Godspell is a show about the community that we live in. It's about taking a group of random individuals and bringing them together to create a family. Godspell was originally performed with a 12 person cast. I knew right away that I wanted a bigger cast so I took the 12 parts and divided them throughout the whole cast so that everybody had a line, an improv scene, or a song. The special thing about this show is that no one ever leaves the stage (except in Act Two but I won't say anymore 'cause spoilers). Though the show had named characters I scrapped that and gave the cast two weeks to come up with characters of their own. Each of them had to come up with a name, a reason why he or she is there, and a small backstorg of their character and then grow the character throughout the summer. They took to this task without hesitation and came up with the most amazing characters you are going to see tonight. The show is set in modern day New York City. New York is where everyone ends up going at some point in their life whether it's on vacation or to get out and find themselves. This cast holds a special place in my heart. They took my ideas and direction and put their hearts and souls into this show. I want to end this with saying that Godspell is Quince. Quince is a community and family and this show is just that. The friendships and love you see on the stage are also shown off stage.
On to my "Thank Yous". I want to start by thanking my whole production team. Without them we wouldn't have a show. They took my ideas and ran with what I gave them, and I couldn't be happier. I would like to thank my Technical Directors Frank and JP. We had bumps along the road, but we always listened to each other and in the end figured out what needed to be done. Thank you to my Choral Director Jared for making this show sound absolutely beautiful and putting in the time to work outside of rehearsal with the cast to get them where they are tonight. Thank you to my Pit Director Kathryn for working with me on getting the cast and pit to get them molded into one and being such an amazing pit director. Thank you to my wonderful Choreographers Isabelle and Kevin. These two put a lot of time and effort into these dances and were nonstop on getting them perfect. Thank you both for letting me throw in my ideas and giving me the chance to also choreograph. You two are the perfect duo. Thank you to my Producer Lindsey. I don't think I could have made it through this summer without her. Not only is she my best friend but someone who knows how to get things done. She was always there to listen and she was always there to pull me back if I got a little too crazy. I am so blessed to have gotten to work with her hand in hand this summer. I want to thank my friends and family for always believing in me and supporting my theatre career. A special shout ou to my wonderful boyfriend Phillip Jindra; he has been such a big help for me this summer. He is my rock and pushed me to be the best Director I could possibly be. And lastly I want to thank all of you, for all your support throughout the years. So please sit back, relax, laugh, cry, and clap along to tonight's performance of Godspell: 2012 Revival.
